Meeting Minutes - September 26, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 12:06pm and was attended by 13 members: Matt Greenbergs, Doug Goodman, Rhonda Walthall, Stephanie Love-Payne, Jim Tucker, Molly Frisbie, Lee Moran, Jennifer Ebner, Elizabeth Lee, Ferdonya Henderson, Brenda Gettig and Karen Shephard, and Maury Tasem.
• Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdonya Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced President Matt Greenbergs.
• Matt called the meeting to order, reminded everyone this is the last meeting of the current membership term, and introduced Doug Goodman as Toastmaster.
• Doug welcomed members and asked everyone to introduce themselves using the theme or word of the week (W.O.W.), explaining he has never bought a lottery ticket.
O Theme: If I Won the Lottery
O W.O.W.: levity 1) lightness of manner or speech; frivolity 2) lack of steadiness or constancy; changeableness.
• Doug welcomed Molly Frisbie for an educational moment on "The Biggest Public Speaking Mistakes." Molly researched a top ten list: 10) Starting a speak with a whimper 9) Imitating others 8) Failure to work the room 7) Failure to use relaxation techniques 6) Reading speeches word for word 5) Using someone else’s story 4) Speaking without passion 3) Ending a speech with question and answers 2) Failing to prepare 1) Failing to realize speaking is an acquired skill.
• Doug started the speaker portion of the meeting and introduced the scheduled speaker:
O Speaker #1, Lee Moran gave his CC-1 Icebreaker speech. Lee shared his past, present, and future goals. He explained his interests in sports, education, music, and travel. He also shared his family background and tales of working on a cruise ship.
• Doug introduced VP of Education, Brenda Gettig as Table Topics Master. Brenda called on the following individuals to speak and incorporated the theme in some of the topics:
O Elizabeth Lee: what would you do with $10M?
O Karen Shepard: what does only your best friend know about you?
O Maury Tasem: talk about waking up one day to find yourself in a different body.
O Rhonda Walthall: if you had a super power for 24 hours, what would it be?
O Ferdonya Henderson: imagine you won $10M, how would life have changed one year later?
• Doug introduced VP of Public Relations, Rhonda Walthall as the General Evaluator. Rhonda introduced her team of evaluators:
O Stephanie Love-Payne evaluated Lee’s speech O Ferdonya Henderson provided the Grammarian/Ah counter’s report O Jennifer Ebner provided the Timer’s report O Rhonda provided a detailed overview of the meeting
• The "Best of" awards were presented by Doug:
O Best Speaker: Lee Moran
O Best Table Topics: Elizabeth Lee
O Best Evaluator: Stephanie Love-Payne
• Doug asked for announcements.
O Rhonda spoke about the flyer for the Central Division Spooktacular Tall Tales and Table Topics contest on October 13th at 9:30am.
O The club is still accepting membership renewals for October 1st to March 31st and continually accepting new member applications. Get your renewal dues to Jose de la Torre to remain an active member and realize the full benefits of Toastmasters. Contact Barbara Nedd for new membership applications.
• Doug turned the meeting over to Brenda who adjourned the meeting at 1:00pm.
