Meeting Minutes - August 29, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 12:04pm and was attended by 12 members: Rhonda Walthall, Jennifer Ebner, Stephanie Love-Payne, Molly Frisbie, Doug Goodman, Darcy Konold, Hannah Zhao, Jose de la Torre, Ferdonya Henderson, Brenda Gettig, Byron Shovlain, and Elizabeth Lee.
· Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdonya Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced acting and immediate past President Rhonda Walthall.
· Rhonda called the meeting to order and introduced Molly Frisbie as Toastmaster.
· Molly welcomed members and introduced the word of the week (W.O.W.) and theme. She explained how the ocean tides are affected by the moon and how full moons are often associated with strange occurrences some of which are based on folklore, misperceptions, and bias. Molly asked for self introductions by stating your name and describing what is askew in your life when there is a full moon.
o Theme: Full Moon
o W.O.W.: askew – adjective, out of line: awry.
· Molly welcomed Sergeant-at-Arms, Ferdonya Henderson, for an educational moment. Ferdonya spoke about all the resources that are available within Toastmasters. There are manuals, handouts, and guidelines for practically any position/role that you can think of. Whether it is for an officer position or a meeting role (Evaluator, Toastmaster, etc…). She encouraged more volunteering for positions because you can always find information to help you along.
· Molly started the speaker portion of the meeting and introduced the scheduled speakers:
o Speaker #1, Rhonda Walthall completed her CL-8 project on the “Importance of Membership the Club.” Rhonda kicked off the membership campaign and explained the importance of retaining 20 or more members within the Toastmaster’s club along with bringing in new members for new perspectives and ideas. She explained the goals for the Distinguished Club Program and detailed the organizational structure of Toastmasters with the member being the focus of it all.
o Speaker #2, Darcy Konold gave her CC-5 “The Scoop, the Whole Scoop, and Nothing but the Scoop.” She explained what a High Performance Leadership Project entails and how to effectively complete it: recruit a guidance committee; study the learning materials; select a project; work with team to accomplish the goal; and give a presentation to your club. She encouraged studying the manual and workbooks obtained through Toastmasters prior to starting the project.
· Molly introduced Byron Shovlain as the Table Topics Master. Byron incorporated the theme of the week into table topics. He called on Jennifer Ebner to speak on full moon celebrations.
