Century Toastmasters Meeting Minutes 4-13-05

Century Toastmasters Meeting Minutes 4-13-05

Theme: Thomas Jefferson
WOW: Revolutionary – so new and different as to cause a major change in something

Eleven people came to the Century Toastmasters meeting, going where very few have gone before… participating in a meeting with no speakers. With last minute changes and cancellations, attendees knew very little of what to expect. But the Toastmaster of the day, Darcy Konold, and everyone else present, did a fine job of participating and being flexible with the meeting. Darcy started off the meeting with giving us a good introduction to the revolutionary person Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson invented the first copy machine, devised the monetary decimal system we use today, was the first to study fossil bones, designed music stands for four instruments, invented many other things we still use today, and on top of that acted as a founding father, writing the Declaration of Independence and serving as President of the United States. His accomplishments are truly inspiring.

Darcy led the group with self introductions. Two guests were present, Tanya Fragomeno, visiting for her second time, and Sabrina, visiting her first time. Also in attendance were new members Maria Bastian and Rhonda Walthall. After introductions Joe Stewart led Table Topics, asking Doug Goodman, Tony Gutierrez, Tanya, and Rhonda some engaging questions.

With no speeches to evaluate, the evaluation team consisting of me (Molly), Tony, Rhonda, and Doug, took the time to explain the various functionary positions in a meeting.

Joe made an announcement about the Central Division Speech Contest on April 23 at Solar Turbines at 1 p.m., with Century Toastmasters members Jim Tucker and Martin Olmeda competing. Contact Joe if you’d like more information about attending.

Doug won Best Table Topics Speaker and Darcy closed the meeting with some more fun facts about Thomas Jefferson.

The next Century Toastmasters meeting is Wednesday, April 20, at noon, Century Park, Building 4, room 4120C. We hope to see you there!
