The Lasting Impression of Psychological Artistry

Hi,

We have a desire to make sense of things. A desire to know and understand things. Curiosity is about not knowing. Using Psychological Artistry and the SNT (Show, Not Tell) kit evokes curiosity and anticipation. Combine this with our nature of being attracted to what is unique and different and we begin to see why Psychological Artistry has built up an enduring popularity.

The whole idea behind using the SNT kit is not to prescribe, but to explore possibilities. Hence the variety of ideas included in the kit. These range from the Power of Perspectives, The Creativity Gap, the Influence of Personal Touch, the Importance of the Show, Not Tell principle and many other intriguing topics. This also gives us key insights into what can be stimulated by using them. The results just need you to add your skills, talent and knowledge.

  • Curiosity (How can that be? How could I use it?)
  • Adding variety to presentations
  • Learning something completely new and different to them
  • Enhancing their existing skills
  • Interest in how the mind works.

THE LASTING IMPRESSION, IDEAS IN ACTION

Last week I delivered at 3 separate conferences to Business Consultants, Industry Leaders and Health Professionals by using the ideas, philosophies and principles behind Psychological Artistry and the SNT kit. In all of these, I'm pleased to say I have received very positive feedback, I created a stir and buzz within each and all of the participants. This was down to me using the very practical and real-world techniques we explore in the SNT kit. These ideas are explained and expanded upon in the 2 hour DVD you get with the kit. The effects certainly left a lasting impression and met the key requirements of all 3 events.

I had to deliver "something different" that would meet the goals of the host companies. This also had to involve a personal element that would make the audiences feel included and engaged with the key messages and themes from the conference. To do this, I had to create a lasting impression on them. To be able to do this, we must:

  • Be unique and different
  • Affect people's emotions
  • Be relevant and pertinent to the audience
  • Contain an element of mystery and surprise
  • Be understandable
  • Have an underpinning energy and passion
  • Come from a place of authority

In each of these events, I used the SNT (Show, Not Tell) kit to unlock and illustrate the conferences themes and bring people in through the personal touch, emotional engagements and feelings of intrigue, mystery and fascination. On the day, you also receive your own copy of the SNT kit. Through this, the object of delivery becomes:

  • Creating Extraordinary Moments
  • Keeping MMI's (Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insight) high
  • Engage through emotions and feelings
  • Using Personal Touch
  • Create mystery, attraction, captivation and the unexpected
  • Evoke curiosity and anticipation

For more on what it takes to impress, please see www.mindsways.com/SNT/

WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?

To start with there are many definitions of psychology, but the one that sums it up for me is "the science of how we think".  Next is the Artistry part, again, there have been many definitions but I like to think that artistry is a blend of:

  • Creating connection, rapport and emotions
  • Telling stories
  • Gaining and holding attention
  • Producing insights
  • Displaying human nature
  • Cognition
  • Show, Not Tell
  • Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insights (MMI's)

Therefore, Psychological Artistry is the blending of these two to create a method for successful communication. Imagination is where Psychological Artistry and science meet. Get to know more about this by going to www.mindsways.com/about/

THE POWER OF PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY

The approach we take is what we call Psychological Artistry and involves using a blend of psychology, mind magic (or mentalism), personal development and smart thinking ideas. By tapping into people's imagination, curiosity and desire for mystery we can engage people in all different areas. By adding in psychological approaches, this is strengthened. I appreciate that by its very nature, it is not a traditional approach but that is where its power lies.

In his astonishing TED talk, Beau Lotto demonstrates the power of visual illusions to the world. By combining the fascinating effect that illusions have on an audience with meaningful demonstrations of how these can be used to change the world and create beautiful pieces of art, Lotto also explores why we can't believe what we see, but we see what we believe.

To sum up his message and why illusions hold such meaning for us, he says: "The brain didn't evolve to see the world as it is. We can't. Instead, the brain has evolved to see the world the way it was useful to see it in the past." By this he means that we do not experience what is really going on outside of our heads, but we experience what we have learned to expect.

To see this video and others which explore this fascinating subject, please go to www.mindsways.com/SNT/#PsychologicalArtistry

Psychological Artistry is about combining the world of art and psychology. It's about showing the beautiful flaws in our thinking and how we can use them. It's about magnifying how we all think and giving you the chance to change it. A couple of interesting examples the McGurk effect and Prof Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect". These illustrate both the power and the approach of psychological artistry. I would love to know what you think.

A PSYCHOLGICAL ARTIST'S SKILL

A Psychological Artist's skill is in knowing and understanding how people will react to a trick or an effect. This is of great significance in anyone who spends their time delivering to groups of people, creating effective advertising, working face-to-face with a client or developing training materials for others to consume later on.

This ability and the frameworks that lie behind are of importance to anyone concerned with how their message is put across. It is this skill that we focus on in the Show, Not Tell kit. The intention, as well as exploring interesting materials, is to uncover a rich source of tools, ideas and techniques, gain new insights, be inspired and bridge the creativity gap.

To learn about what Psychological Artistry can do for you, see www.mindsways.com/SNT/

COMBINING THE SKILLS AND POWER

By combining the power and skills of Psychological Artistry with your message and an emotional connection between you and your audience, you have a way of grabbing, holding and directing attention quickly and effectively. This ensures that people will engage with you and with what you have to say.

We need to ask ourselves, what feelings are we eliciting from others? What are we doing to create anticipation and a positive expectation? How are we motivating others to engage with us and our message? By creating those feelings in others we are sowing the seeds and emotional tags in their minds which will flourish, not just in the short term, but in longer terms as well.

A SHOW, NOT TELL APPROACH

The SNT kit is good for anyone looking for something different and to stimulate new styles of thinking. The feedback from using the kit has been that it has definitely satisfied the thirst for new ideas whilst ticking all of the conditions needed for leaving a lasting impression.  We know that this is a non-traditional approach, yet that is where its power lies. For many of those who have used their SNT kits, this is an experiment. However, it soon turns into a valuable tool for communicating, engaging and delivering. Creating the Personal Touch - SNT Kit

Hi,

The SNT (Show, Not Tell) Kit is a set of tools all about learning, understanding and applying Psychological Artistry to what you do. The kit is a very practical way to create a buzz around your message and interact with people in whole new ways by using illusions, psychology, magic tricks and the power of personal touch.

The kit is extremely practical and over the past 6 months alone, I have used it on an almost daily basis. This has ranged from one-to-one coaching sessions, workshops, business training and with large audiences between two and three hundred. Because the material within the kit is based on our human behavior, how we think, behave and act, it has the scope to be used in a variety of situations and with a variety of people.

THE SHAPE OF S.U.C.C.E.S.

An enlightening model that I've used and has been used in delivering workshops, in marketing and advertising and with communications experts is called The Shape of S.U.C.C.E.S. All effective messages are shaped by being:

  • Straightforward
  • Unexpected & Surprise
  • Credible
  • Concrete
  • Emotional
  • Stories

At the heart of the SNT kit lies the potent combination of the unexpected and surprising. The kit, in line with the current trend of placing a high value on Personal Touch, allows you to engage with people through using face-to-face and physical means, providing a very real and concrete experience for them. Doing this lets you tell stories, leverage emotions, establish yourself as credible and put your message across in a straightforward, interesting and entertaining manner.

YOU IN YOUR FUTURE

The future of presenting, training, teaching, communicating, creative thinking and business will be based on the shattering of traditions and be built upon the shards of what remains. To do this, novelty, innovation, imagination and the ability to embrace what is truly different is what's needed. Novelty is the key and for many people who have previously used the SNT kit, they have certainly found a source of it. This leads us to ask three significant questions;

  • What's your source of surprise?
  • How do you 'rock the boat'?
  • Where do you get unexpected influences from?

The coming together of these three answers will dictate how well prepared you are for the future. The materials in the kit certainly act to generate a blend of what's new, what's a positive force of disruption and what can be a fountain of extraordinary influences.

USING YOUR ILLUSIONS

Over the past 2 years, I have been running courses around the U.K. and found that a number of people from a wide range of background, including teachers, therapists, coaches, business leaders, scientists, trainers etc. have found Psychological Artistry and the SNT kit to help:

  • Engage with audiences
  • A source of fresh ideas for business and delivery
  • Add to presentations
  • Understanding psychological illusions
  • Add mystery and the unexpected to dry presentations
  • Create emotional connections
  • Add visual impact and vitality
  • Use personal touch
  • Create extraordinary moments
  • Show the power of perspective
  • Unleashing creative forces
  • Reframing ideas
  • Fuels imagination

In his astonishing TED talk, Beau Lotto demonstrates the power of visual illusions to the world.
