Meeting Minutes - January 16, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 12:07PM by Sergeant At Arms Bryon Shovlain. The Pledge of Allegiance and introduction of our Toastmaster Ferdonya Henderson followed.

Toastmaster Ferdonya Henderson performed a dual role as Acting President and Toastmaster.

For the benefit of our guest Toastmaster Ferdonya Henderson explained the theme and word of the week.

Theme: “Winter Dream”
WOW: Cajole (kuh-JOHL) - To persuade with flattery, repeated appeals, or soothing words.

Self introductions followed. What is your Winter Dream?

The Look Ahead was passed around for Members to sign up to fill a function for upcoming meetings.

The Educational Moment was given by Toastmaster Ferdonya Henderson. Topic: When Things Go Wrong.
· Don’t Blow Your Cool
· Do Maintain your dignity
· Don’t Surrender to the situation
· Do Your Best under any circumstances
· Don’t Continually refer to the problem
· Do Keep your sense of humor

There were two speakers for this meeting Oliver Rhodes and Rhonda Walthall.

Speaker #1 Oliver Rhodes gave an Inspirational Speech titled “The Ultimate Expression of Human Performance”. Time requested was 6 – 8 Minutes. The just of this story was about a lady in passing on the street asked him for money. Oliver Rhodes after some conversation gave the Lady $2.00 however asked that something positive come out of it. Some time later while shopping at a store there was a Lady that asked if he remembered her and Oliver said no. The Lady went on to tell him that she was the Lady on the street that he gave the $2.00 to. She stated she went to a shelter and turned her life around. She told Oliver that she passed the $2.00 on.

Speaker #2 Rhonda Walthall is working towards her Advance Leadership Bronze. The presentation was her second program titled “Building A Team” and she requested 10 minutes.
Rhonda had hand-outs which included Toastmasters International Inverted Pyramid and information on what a team is. Rhonda in her speech stated that a team is a group of people who work together to accomplish specific, common goals. Members should share responsibility for tasks and depend upon one another to achieve them. Rhonda also spoke on organizing a team by member selections, reviewing goals, establishing parameters, developing a plan, assigning roles and responsibilities, establishing control and building trust. Lastly Rhonda spoke on providing training which included communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, effective meetings, organization and project management.

After the speeches Toastmaster Ferdonya Henderson turned control over to the General Evaluator Bryon Shovlain. His team of functionaries was introduced and each was asked to fulfill their function.

General Evaluator Bryon Shovlain gave an overview of the meeting.

All present were asked to vote for Best Speaker and Evaluator.

Control was returned to Toastmaster Ferdonya Henderson.

Our guest Kris Nash was given the opportunity to comment on the meeting and she was invited back.

Rhonda Walthall reminded the officers there is an officers training on January 26 and there are contest coming up if anyone is interested in being a contestant.

Announcements:

Meeting Minutes - January 9, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 12:07 PM by Sergeant at Arms Bryon Shovlain. Pledge of Allegiance and the introduction of our President Matt Greenbergs followed.

President Matt Greenbergs had a dual role as President and Toastmaster.

For the benefit of our guest President/Toastmaster Matt Greenbergs explained our Theme and Word of the Week

Theme: “Yes I Will!”
WOW: Antiquarian = One who collects or studies.

Self introductions followed.
Question = “What has been the most memorial moment so for this year?”

Vice President of Public Relations Rhonda Walthall was given time to speak on the Speech Contest.

President Matt Greenbergs stated we have meet 3 of our Goals and are doing well in accomplishing the remainder.

The Look-A-Head was passed around and our President requested that Members sign up to fill and function.

Toastmaster Greenbergs requested that our General Evaluator Ferdonya Henderson give a brief explanation of her role.

Toastmaster Matt Greenbergs introduced our speaker for the meeting Angie Bonner. Angie was giving her Ice Breaker. She was welcomed Toastmaster style. Title of her speech was “Living My Life To The Fullest!”

Toastmaster Bonner spoke on Church, who has inspired her in her life, two sisters, 7 year sister, lots of parties, camping, school and going to Europe, coming from New Mexico and from a close kit family. Her hobbies, never say no to anything, try something once, sky diving, bungee jumping, biggest fear–wishing she could have done. Live Life To The Fullest-Don’t Leave For Tomorrow What You Can Do For Today.

Control was returned to our President Matt Greenbergs. President Greenbergs congratulated Angie and he asked Members and Guest to write comments for Angie. President Greenbergs suggested that Angie give her next speech within a month. He also gave words of encouragement to all to speak and volunteer for a function.

Table Topics Master Rob Cross was introduced. Four Questions were asked

Darcy ~ Tell us about a good holiday experience you have had over the holiday. WOW was used. Darcy spoke on Christmas Hawaiian Dished her Mother/Grandmother fixed
Barbara ~ What is the most exciting food you have had in your life. Barbara switched and spoke on politics.
Ferdonya ~ What are some of my goals. Focus on Toastmasters more in 2008.
Oliver ~ How to have more fun. Be active, Get in the Grove, Move, Do things just for the fun of it. “Movement Is Improvement & Stillness is Illness!”

Control was returned to the Toastmaster Matt Greenbergs who introduced our General Evaluator who introduces the Functionaries who spoke on their functions. Control was returned to the Toastmasters and Awards were presented.

Meeting Minutes - December 20, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 12:10pm and was attended by 13 members: Matt Greenbergs, Jennifer Ebner, Brenda Gettig, Doug Goodman, Jackie Lyons, Rhonda Walthall, Barbara Nedd, Darcy Konold, Byron Shovlain, Frida Vissuet, Stephanie Love-Payne, Jose de la Torre, Angela Bonner and 3 guests: Chris, Whitney, and Oliver.

• President Matt Greenbergs filled in as Sergeant-at-Arms and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

• Matt welcomed everyone, led a quick round of introductions, and invited everyone to enjoy the potluck.

• Matt introduced Jackie Lyons as the party master for the meeting. Jackie explained the rules of the white elephant gift exchange and had Matt select the first name. The members and guests had a rather tame game with people coming away with a wide range of items from candy to a signed book from Oliver, wine, a blanket, bartending tools, box cutter, dolphin bottle opener, Starbucks salt and pepper shaker, massage gift certificate, candle, and necklace.

• Announcements:
No meeting on December 26th , next meeting will be held on January 9th, 2008.
