Meeting Minutes - June 27, 2007

June 27, 2007
The meeting was called at 12:05 p.m. and was attended by 11 members and one guests: Hannah Zhao, Doug Goodman, Jennifer Ebner, Rhonda Walthall, Jessie Wang, Brenda Gettig, Matt Greenbergs, Darcy Konold, Fabio Bottalico, Jose de la Torre, new member Elizabeth Lee, and guest Lee Moran.

· Incoming Secretary Jennifer Ebner led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced club president Rhonda Walthall.
· Rhonda opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. She introduced Toastmaster Darcy Konold.
· Darcy introduced the theme, Independence; and the WOW, doughty. The attendees participated in a round of introductions describing what Independence meant to them.
· Toastmaster Darcy introduced Doug Goodman for the Educational Moment. Doug spoke about the importance of a well-written, prepared introduction.
· Toastmaster Darcy introduced the scheduled speaker, Hannah Zhao. Hannah presented her ASC-2 speech, titled “Interpersonal Communication”. Jennifer Ebner assisted Hannah in this speech. Hannah first introduced the four levels of interpersonal communication: 1) small talk, 2) facts disclosure, 3) viewpoints and opinions, and 4) personal feelings. Next, Hannah and Jennifer participated in an personal communication role play, pretending to be two people who meet at a wedding reception. The speech concluded with an open discussion with the audience pertaining to their observations of the interpersonal communication during the role play.
• Toastmaster Darcy also fulfilled the role as Table Topics Master. Darcy called on five attendees to participate:
o Fabio Bottalico – “If you had been present as a Founding Father of our country, would you have signed the Declaration of Independence?”
o Matt Greenbergs – “If a bird in a cage has all of its needs met, does a caged bird have more freedom that a bird in the wild?”
o Doug Goodman – “How do you celebrate the 4th of July?”
o Elizabeth Lee – “As a teenager, how did you claim your independence?”
o Lee Moran – “How did you handle your driving freedom?”
• Toastmaster Darcy introduced the General Evaluator, Jessie Wang. Jessie introduced her team of evaluators:
o Brenda evaluated speaker Hannah.
o Jennifer provided the grammarian/ah counter’s report.
o Rhonda provided the timer’s report.
o Jessie then provided an evaluation of the meeting.
• Toastmaster Darcy presented the “Best of” awards.
o Best speaker: Hannah
o Best table topics: Elizabeth
o Best evaluator: Brenda
o First-timer ribbon was presented to Lee.
• Toastmaster Darcy asked for announcements. The following announcements were made:
o The Champion’s Edge Coaching seminar will be on Sunday, July 8, at 5 p.m. at the Metropolitan Wastewater District Auditorium.
o In July, the club will have a Table Topics Contest on July 11 and a Tall Tales Contest on July 25. The Area Contest will be held on August 25.
o The upcoming new officer training dates are: July 12, El Cajon; July 28, Miramar College; August 25, Oceanside. More information can be found on the district’s website: d5toastmasters.org.
• Toastmaster returned the meeting to club president Rhonda.
• Rhonda adjourned the meeting at 1 p.m.

Meeting Minutes - June 20, 2007

June 20, 2007
The meeting was called at 12:10 p.m. and was attended by 10 members and two guests: Ferdonya Henderson, Tania Fragomeno, Hannah Zhao, Doug Goodman, Jennifer Ebner, Rhonda Walthall, Stephanie Love-Payne, Jessie Wang, Rob Cross, and Matt Greenbergs.

· Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdonya Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced club president Rhonda Walthall.
· Rhonda opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. She introduced Toastmaster Doug Goodman.
· Toastmaster gave an overview of Toastmasters International and how Century Toastmasters club meetings function. He introduced the theme, Play Ball; and the WOW, gewgaw. The attendees participated in a round of introductions describing their plans for Sunday.
· Toastmaster introduced Ferdonya for the Educational Moment. Ferdonya spoke about the importance of being a club officer and the position of sergeant-at-arms.
· Toastmaster introduced club president Rhonda for the installation of new officers. Rhonda introduced club secretary Tania Fragomeno who led the new officer’s pledge. The officers present that took the pledge were:
· Matt Greenbergs, president
· Rhonda Walthall, VP of public relations
· Jennifer Ebner, secretary
· Ferdonya Henderson, sergeant-at-arms
· Tania introduced Matt Greenbergs, current VP of membership who led the induction of new member Stephanie Love-Payne. Club members then recited their pledge to Stephanie.
· Matt concluded the induction and began table topics. He called upon Hannah Zhao, Jessie Wang and Rob Cross. Matt asked questions relating to the meeting’s theme, Play Ball.
• Matt turned the meeting to the Toastmaster. Toastmaster introduced the general evaluator, Hannah. Hannah introduced her team of evaluators:
o Tania provided the grammarian/ah counter’s report.
o Jennifer provided the timer’s report.
o Hannah then provided an evaluation of the meeting.
• Toastmaster presented the “Best of” awards.
o Best table topics: Rob
o Best evaluator: Hannah
o First-timer ribbons were also presented to one guest.
• Toastmaster asked for announcements. The following announcements were made:

Meeting Minutes - June 13, 2007

June 13, 2007
The meeting was called at 12:08 p.m. and was attended by 14 members and four guests: Ferdonya Henderson, Tania Fragomeno, Jim Tucker, Darcy Konold, Barbara Nedd, Hannah Zhao, Doug Goodman, Jennifer Ebner, Rhonda Walthall, Stephanie Love-Payne, Jose de la Torre, Jessie Wang, Marvin Zavala, and Fabio Bottalico.

· Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdonya Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced club president Rhonda Walthall.
· Rhonda opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. She introduced Toastmaster Hannah Zhao.
· Toastmaster introduced the theme, Elephants vs. Donkeys; and the WOW, prepotency. The attendees participated in a round of introductions using the week’s theme and WOW.
· Toastmaster introduced club vice president of education, Darcy Konold, for the Educational Moment. Darcy spoke about the importance of being a club officer and glossed over some of the responsibilities.
· Toastmaster introduced speaker #1, Stephanie Love-Payne who gave her CC#1 speech- the icebreaker. Stephanie gave an overview of her childhood and career path.
· Toastmaster welcomed back president Rhonda. Rhonda led the club in officer elections for the July to December 2007 term. Each of the attending candidates said a few words about why they would like the position. Ballots were collected during the meeting and were also submitted via email. The election results are as follows:

June 6, 2007
The meeting was called at 12:05 p.m. and was attended by 13 members and three guests: Ferdonya Henderson, Tania Fragomeno, Jim Tucker, Darcy Konold, Rob Cross, Barbara Nedd, Hannah Zhao, Matt Greenbergs, Doug Goodman, Jennifer Ebner, Brenda Gettig, Rhonda Walthall, and Stephanie Love-Payne.

· Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdonya Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced club president Rhonda Walthall.
· Rhonda opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. She introduced Toastmaster Brenda Gettig.
· Toastmaster introduced the theme, National Family Day; and the WOW, cavort. The attendees participated in a round of introductions, using the week’s theme and WOW.
· Toastmaster introduced club vice president of education, Darcy Konold, for the Educational Moment. In the past few Educational Moments, club officers have spoken about their role to inform club members in preparation for officer nominations and elections. Darcy spoke about the role of the vice president of education.
· Toastmaster introduced the first speaker, Jennifer Ebner. Jennifer presented her CC #4 speech, “Party Planner Extraordinaire,” and spoke about how to be a great party planner, drawing on her many experiences in this role.
· Toastmaster introduced the second speaker, Tania Fragomeno. Tania also presented her CC#4 speech titled “Play Tourist.”
· Toastmaster welcomed back president Rhonda. Rhonda led the club officer nominations portion of the meeting. The nominations are for the July to December 2007 term. The nominations were as follows:
Sergeant-at-Arms: Ferdonya Henderson, Stephanie Love-Payne, Darcy Konold.
Secretary: Brenda Gettig, Jennifer Ebner.
Treasurer: Jose de la Torre, Jennifer Ebner.
VP of Public Relations: Brenda Gettig, Rhonda Walthall.
VP of Membership: Barbara Nedd.
VP of Education: Natalie Williams, Brenda Gettig.
President: Matt Greenbergs.
Club officer elections will take place on June 13. Voting may also be done via email; Rhonda will send a ballot. Pizza will be served at the June 13 meeting.
• Rhonda turned the meeting back to Toastmaster Brenda. Brenda introduced the General Evaluator, Ferdonya Henderson. Ferdonya introduced her team of evaluators:
o Doug Goodman evaluated speaker #1, Jennifer.
o Hannah Zhao evaluated speaker #2, Tania.
o Darcy Konold provided the grammarian/ah counter’s report.
o Jim Tucker provided the timer’s report.
• Toastmaster presented the Best Of awards.
o Best speaker: Tania
o Best evaluator: Doug
• Toastmaster asked the guests if they would like to comment on the meeting. A guest said the meeting was timely and that it was nice that everyone helped. She said she felt “at home.” Another guest commented she enjoys Toastmasters and is looking forward to more visits.
• Toastmaster returned the meeting to president Rhonda. Rhonda announced the Regional II Conference was held on June 1 and 2. Jim Tucker represented the club. Jim provided an update on the conference. Jim said the conference had educational sessions as well as general Toastmasters business. Norman Nemura from our district won third place in the speech contest. He will go on to represent the district in the regional contest.
• Rhonda filled functionaries for the June 13 meeting and adjourned the meeting.

Meeting Minutes May 30, 2007

May 30, 2007
The meeting was called at 12:08 p.m. and was attended by 9 members and 3 guests: Hannah Zhao, Natalie Williams, Ferdonya Henderson, Jose de la Torre, Jim Tucker, Doug Goodman, Ferdonya Henderson, Fabio Bottalico, Rhonda Walthall, and guests Joel, Armando, and Cynthia (?).

· Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdonya Henderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced President Rhonda Walthall.
· Rhonda called the meeting to order and welcomed the three guests. She then introduced the meeting’s Toastmaster, Jim Tucker.
· Jim called for a round of introductions and asked everyone to either use the Word of the Week or to talk about their thoughts on honesty.
o Theme: Honest Abe
o Word of the Week: Concatenation
· Jim introduced Rhonda Walthall who presented an Educational Moment on the functions of the President.
· Jim introduced the day’s speakers.
o Speaker #1, Doug Goodman. The goal of Doug’s speech was “organization” and the title of his speech was “A Tale of Two Utilities”. Doug explained to audience why CA residents pay more for their electricity than their Midwestern counterparts, even though CA residents consume far less electricity.
o Speaker #2, Jose de la Torre presented speech CC #10. The goal of his speech was “to inspire” and the title of his speech was “After Two Years”. Jose spoke about his first two years in Toastmasters. He spoke about how he was inspired by Jim Tucker and Lance Miller. Congratulations to Jose for completing his Competent Communicator Award!
• Jim introduced Table Topics Master Hannah Zhao, who is working towards her CL Award. Hannah quoted an article from the Wall Street Journal and asked for a volunteer to respond. Doug Goodman volunteered. Due to time limitations, no other topics were raised.
• Jim introduced the day’s General Evaluator, Ferdonya Henderson. Ferdonya introduced the team of evaluators:
o Natalie Williams evaluated Speaker #1, Doug Goodman.
o Ferdonya Henderson evaluated Speaker #2, Jose de la Torre.
o Fabio Bottalico provided the grammarian/ah counter’s report.
o Fabio Bottalico provided the timer’s report.
o For leadership evaluations, Rhonda evaluated Hannah.
• Jim announced best of awards:
o Best Speaker: Jose de la Torre.
o Best Evaluator: Natalie Williams.
o Best Table Topics Speaker: Doug Goodman
o Jim presented a First Timer ribbon to guest Joel.
• Jim introduced Rhonda who had the following club announcements:
o TI Region II Conference is June 1-2nd in San Diego. Jim Tucker will carrying the club proxy to the conference.
o Officer Nominations will be June 6.
• Rhonda adjourned the meeting at 1:00 p.m.
