Meeting Minutes - November 7, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 12:05pm and was attended by 10 members: Matt Greenbergs, Jennifer Ebner, Brenda Gettig, Jim Tucker, Byron Shovlain, Jackie Lyons, Doug Goodman, Rhonda Walthall, Lee Moran, Barbara Nedd, and 3 guests: Jeff, Kelsey, and Julie.

• VP of Education Brenda Gettig led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced President Matt Greenbergs.

• Matt called the meeting to order, read the mission and vision statement, and introduced VP of Public Relations Rhonda Walthall as Toastmaster.

• Rhonda welcomed members and guests and introduced the word of the week (W.O.W) and theme by asking the audience to identify where the quotes about dreams originated from. Everyone was asked to introduce themselves and use the theme or W.O.W.
O Theme: Dreams
O W.O.W.: yen, noun: a strong desire or inclination; a longing

• Rhonda welcomed VP of Membership Barbara Nedd for an educational moment on the use of podiums/lecterns. Barbara provided a very well prepared and humorous speech on how she has a love/hate relationship with the lectern. It gives a sense of importance, but also restricts movement. She showed ways to work around the lectern or to eliminate it all together.

• Rhonda started the speaker portion of the meeting and introduced the scheduled speaker:
O Speaker #1, Jackie Lyons gave her CC-1 Icebreaker speech appropriately titled "Just Jackie." Jackie bravely gave her speech without the use of notes or the lectern. In no particular order, the top three things Jackie is passionate about are food, family, and career. She explained her love of cooking, the importance of family, and her new career as a financial advisor.

• Doug Goodman led a full round of Table Topics and gave a great introduction on ways to respond to table topics.
O Lee Moran spoke about what he would compete in as a world champion
O Brenda Gettig spoke about what famous person she would spend a day with
O Barbara Nedd talked about where she would dream about going on an exotic trip
O Jeff told us what role he would star in for a movie remake
O Byron Shovlain talked about striving for his personal best at surfing
O Rhonda Walthall told us about dreaming to be a world champion dog handler
O Matt Greenbergs spoke about spending a day with Ronald Reagan

• Secretary Jennifer Ebner was introduced as the General Evaluator. Jennifer introduced her team of evaluators:
O Byron Shovlain evaluated Jackie’s speech
O Brenda Gettig provided the Grammarian/Ah counter’s report
O Jim Tucker provided the Timer’s report
O Jennifer provided an overview of the meeting

• The "Best of" awards were presented by Rhonda:

O 1st Time Guest Ribbons: Jeff, Julie, Kelsey

• Matt adjourned the meeting at 1:05pm.
