Meeting Minutes - July 18, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. and was attended by 8 members and five guests: Hannah Zhao, Doug Goodman, Rhonda Walthall, Jessie Wang, Brenda Gettig, Matt Greenbergs, Darcy Konold, and Barbara Nedd; new member Cece´ Rowe; first time guests Miyuki, Chris, and Josh, and previous guest Edwin.
· Jessie Wang led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced club president Matt Greenberg.
· Matt Greenberg opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. He introduced Toastmaster Jessie Wang.
· Jessie introduced the theme, Real Magic. The attendees participated in a round of introductions describing a magical thing they have experienced and or a correct usage of the word of the week, “legerdemain.”
· Jessie Wang introduced Barbara Nedd for the Educational Moment. Barbara spoke about how to utilizing quotations to make your speeches more distinguished.
· Toastmaster Jessie introduced the first scheduled speaker, Hannah Zhao. Hannah presented her ACS-3 speech, entitled “Let’s get personal – my 4 year old daughter”. Hannah discussed 3 personal stories regarding her 4 year old daughter (Helen), and the joys of being a parent to Helen.
· Jessie also introduced the second scheduled Darcy Konold. Darcy presented her ACG-6 speecn, entitled “Toastmaster Tips.” Darcy discussed the difference between a podium, and a lectern and the correct way to have speakers approach and exit the lectern or podium.
· Due to time constraints table topics was deleted from the meeting.
• Jessie Wang introduced the General Evaluator, Doug Goodman. Doug introduced his team of evaluators:
o Rhonda evaluated Hannah.
o Matt evaluated Darcy.
o Cece´ provided her first grammarian/ah counter’s report.
o Brenda provided the timer’s report.
o Doug Goodman then provided a general evaluation of the meeting.
• Toastmaster Jessie presented the “Best of” awards.
o Best speaker went to Darcy
o There was a tie between Doug and Rhonda for Best evaluator, Rhonda took the ribbon, and Doug the trophy.
o First-timer ribbons were presented to Edwin, Miyuki, Chris, and Josh.
• Toastmaster Jessie asked for announcements. The following announcements were made:
o Rhonda announced the Tall Tales Contest to be held on 7/25/07, and requested additional participants for this contest.
o The Area Contest will be held on August 25.
o The remaining new officer training dates are: July 28, Miramar College and August 25, Oceanside. More information can be found on the district’s website: d5toastmasters.org
· Toastmaster Jessie returned the meeting to club president Matt. Matt reminded everyone about the new vision statement of Century Toastmaster, which is “Yes, I will.” Matt adjourned the meeting at 1:10 p.m.
