Meeting Minutes for Jan 31 007
The meeting was called at 12:10 p.m., and was attended by 10 members and two guests: Rhonda Walthall, Ferdonya Henderson, Brenda Gettig, Jim Tucker, Jessie Wong, Don Wiggins, Darcy Konold, Natalie Williams, and Margaret Reid. Guests included Marty Dare and Maggie Ko.
· Sergeant at Arms-Ferdonya Henderson called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
· President Rhonda Walthall opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. Rhonda introduced Toastmaster Darcy Konold.
· Darcy introduced the week’s theme and WOW:
Theme: Groundhog Day
WOW: Intuition
· Darcy led the self-introductions in which everyone used the WOW or the theme.
· The Educational Moment was presented by Ferdonya Henderson, Ferdonya spoke about the role of the Sergeant-At-Arms for greeting people before each meeting.
· Darcy introduced the first scheduled speaker, Hannah Zhao. Hannah gave her ACB-10 speech from the Persuasive Speaker manual. The title of Hannah’s speech was “We Have a Mission”. Hannah spoke about her mother’s battle with breast cancer. She cited statistics for the risk for women and men to get breast cancer. She called us to action by telling us four ways we can help bring an end to breast cancer. Congratulations, Hannah, for completing your ACB-10!
· Darcy introduced the second scheduled speaker, Brenda Gettig. Brenda gave her CC-5 speech from the Competent Communicator manual. The title of Brenda’s speech was “What I Learned at Toastmasters Leadership Institute”. Brenda attended officer’s training at TLI on January 27 and she shared her thoughts and impressions of that training with us in her speech. Brenda succeeded in multi-tasking: she completed her officer’s training and she completed her CC-5 speech. Great job, Brenda!
• Darcy introduced the day’s General Evaluator, Jim Tucker. Jim introduced his team of evaluators:
o Don Wiggins evaluated speaker Hannah Zhao.
o Ferdonya Henderson evaluated speaker Brenda Gettig.
o Natalie Williams was Grammarian/Ah counter.
o Jessie Wong was Timer.
• Darcy announced best of awards:
o Best Speaker: Tie – Hannah and Brenda!
o Best Evaluator: Tie – Don and Ferdonya!
• Darcy announced the upcoming club contests.
• Rhonda announced that Norma Toothman’s mother is ill and Norma is requesting our thoughts and prayers. Rhonda also announced that Joe Stewart is on Grand Jury Duty for the next 18 months. Rhonda adjourned the meeting at 1:05pm.
