Century Toastmasters Meeting Minutes 7-6-05
Theme: Fireworks
WOW: Pyrotechnics – - the art of making fireworks; an extravagant display of brilliance, virtuosity, or strong emotion
The July 6, 2005 meeting was called to order by the Sergeant-At-Arms, Hannah Zhao, at 12:07pm.
Century Toastmasters had a fantastic meeting with 21 people in attendance! President Joe Stewart started the meeting by presenting an Excellence in Membership Growth Award to past president Dick Larkin.
Toastmaster Stephen Jaworski was introduced to the podium. Stephen discussed the various definitions of Pyrotechnics and then invited the attendees to introduce themselves and share a memorable experience they have had with Fireworks or Pyrotechnics. Self-introductions took 14:55 minutes.
VP of Public Relations, Matt Greenbergs, presented an Educational Moment regarding the Century Toastmasters website.
Molly Frisbie presented her CTM 9 speech, focusing on persuading with power. The title of Molly’s speech was “You Have the Power to Save the Earth”. Molly spoke for 6:29 minutes regarding the earth’s limited energy resources. Molly discussed the various ways we could conserve energy to avoid depleting our natural oil fields and becoming dependent on foreign oil. Molly also discussed the environmental and economical impact of burning fossil fuels, nuclear energy, and hydroelectric power. Molly did an excellent job in persuading the listeners to recognize our contribution in energy conservation.
Joe Stewart led Table Topics, sticking with the theme of the week. Arnold Ah Yuen, Allison Converse and Jose Mascorro had the pleasure of answering his questions regarding fireworks. Table Topics took 2:03 minutes and Arnold won the Best Table Topics award.
Byron Shovlain served as General Evaluator, Hannah Zhao evaluated Molly’s speech, Rhonda Walthall was the Grammarian/Ah Counter, and Norma Toothman was Timer. All did an excellent job, and Hannah won Best Evaluator.
